When my mom closed her second ice cream shop, the one I slaved in as an assistant manager for three months, she had a couple things that she didn't need anymore. One of these things was a giant bulletin board. So I had the great idea to gesso it and paint something on top of it, leaving half of it blank so I might actually be able to use it.
Before I moved out of the house I was living in last year, I utilized the garage space for gessoing. That took a couple days, because this thing needed around 6 thick coats of the stuff. So I got that done.
Then I procrastinated some.
When I got to my new apartment in August, I painted the red part.
Then I procrastinated some more.
But recently I realized how drab and boring my apartment was. I needed a change. Badly. So I used some acrylic additive to make the white transparent, and brushed it with some texture (brush, scrape away with the bristles, repeat). Then I painted the flowers. White went on first. These are actually my favorite part because I used this pearl paint I had from a long time ago, put that over white, and now it shines. Then I did the big orange plum blossoms. Finally the branches. I was actually surprised with my ability to do these with no reference... also, I mixed some of the pearl into the yellow because I love it so much.
So here's what my main room looks like now! <3 I'm so much happier living here without a big fat white wall staring at me all the time.
Now I just need to get some more art from people, and print out Chris' posters for my room, and I'll be g2g!
